A buddy of mine is on the Big Ten Network's "Fan Council". Part of that means he got to go to the Media days and the luncheon where he took a ton of pictures. My favorite. Illinois QB Juice Williams. Look at that tie...

[/quote] Does he look at the mirror before he goes out in public? Look at the shirt and the jacket. They are not even the same color white.

Fergie Jenkins Used To Sleep In A Hookersf Hotel, Funeral Home By Ryan Corazza
Itfs no secret life on the road for minor leaguers is rough. Therefs long bus rides, little money and the sleeping arrangements arenft always the best. Itfs the price one must pay if they want to ascend to the majors, or wallow away in A ball and realize your dream of making MLB isnft going to happen. Ever.
But you think kids today have it bad? Pssh. Cub great Fergie Jenkins has them topped. Why? Because he used to sleep in a funeral home. And a whore house.
From his new book: Fergie: My Life from the Cubs to Cooperstown.
gAnother time, for games in St. Petersburg, the black players slept in a funeral home. This was not an old funeral home, or a funeral home converted into a hotel. This was an active, working funeral home. It was just us and the dead bodies.h
gOn a trip to Palatka, where we stayed in black neighborhoods, they put us up in a hookersf hotel. The team had about five rooms, and in the rest of the hotel they rented rooms by the hour. We saw girls coming back and forth, back and forth. Cars were driving up and parking, and cars were driving away. Sometimes in the middle of the night we got a knock on our doors, and some guy yelled, gIs Julie in there?h or, gIs Barbara in there?h Ifd just yell back through the closed door, gNo, wrong room fella!h I never told my parents about that experience. Welcome to Class D baseball in Palatka, Florida.h
See, thatfs really taking it to another level. Though, it could have been worse. It could have been a funeral home that doubled as a whore house.
And now I think Ifve gone too far.

I'd like to ramble on a while the Tigers. As you probably know, the Tigers traded for Aubrey Huff and sent Eddie Bonine down to make room for him, which gives the Tigers 14 positional players and 11 pitchers on the active roster.
For the first time in a real long time, I actually like how the team is constructed from top to bottom.
The Tigers have 5 men on the bench, and they all form good platoon combinations.
RF: Ordonez / Thomas LF: Raburn (or Thames) / Guillen (or Huff) DH: Thames / Huff (or Guillen) C: Laird / Avila 2B: Polanco / Santiago SS: Everett / Santiago
Basically they have a platoon for all positions except 1B, 3B, and CF. Not only that, the platoon splits are significant enough to make doing so worthwhile, and there always is going to be at least one decent stick on the bench as well as at least one guy who can run reasonably well on the bench.
Moving over to the bullpen, the Tigers went from 7 relievers down to 6. They are:
Mop-up: Miner Strike-out pitcher/stopper: Perry LOOGY: Ni LH Set-up: Seay RH Set-up: Lyon Closer: Rodney
Each of those relievers, other than Miner, is more effective than a league average pitcher by a pretty nice margin, and Miner is basically a league average pitcher. I have absolutely no problem with using Miner to soak up innings in low leverage situations. Every other pitcher is effective enough to consider using in high leverage situations. There are a lot of arrows in Leyland's quiver when the game comes down a battle of the bullpens. Ni and Seay do almost as well against righties as lefties, and they are pretty good at attacking lefties. Perry likely is the set-up man or closer of the future with his ability to get strikeouts. Lyon is just a solid guy who strikes out a few and doesn't walk anyone. Rodney has two legitimate out pitches, and while injuries and wildness have limited his career, he still is a pretty effective closer. I really don't think the Tigers need a 7th reliever, especially given the number of quality starts the rotation gives the team.
