Best Contract Ever: Bobby Bonilla signing with New York Metsm deferred last year's salary.
Worst Contract Ever: New York Mets deferring Bobby Bonilla final season salary.
Result:
Beginning in 2012 and continuing through 2035, yes, 2035, the New York Mets will pay Bobby Bonilla $1.2 million every year, in deferred salary plus interest from his final year of his old contract (1994)
I thought the Tigers paying Ruben Sierra or Damian Easley for a few years after they were traded was awful, but this tops anything I have ever heard.

I've read the guys that signed Bonilla have been working in the City of Detroit Finance Department for years.

Is there a clause in there if he dies? Because then it might've been a good risk.

It seemed like such a good idea in 2000.
Seriously, the GM who agreed to it probably knew he wouldn't be around later, so what does he have to lose? Also, has ownership changed hands in that time?
