I am sad to report the death of Cecil Travis, aged 93.
Frostbite during his service to the country kept him from the Hall. May God bless him.

If I am not mistaken, he was a veteran of The Battle of the Bulge.

You are correct, sir. He lost two toes to frostbite during the battle.

Warren Spawn also was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge.
Also, for what it is worth, Cecil claimed later in life that frostbite did not end his career, but rather he simply could not get around on fastballs after the war. That written, he maybe stated that in an attempt to head-off any sort of commentary that he sacrificed more than other soldiers in WWII.

My bad.
I have a book called Cooperstown, which has brief biologies on HOFers.
It reads (paraphrase) Spawn arrived in Europe just prior to the Battle of the Bulge, recieved a battlefield commision as second lieutenant, and was wounded at Remagen [Germany].
I understood the above to mean he was involved in the battle, but was mistaken. Sorry for the mis-post.

I think he was referring to spelling of Spahn.

At least you didn't borrow money from the groom at his bachelor party for a lap dance, and then never pay him back!

Yeah, I never did that.
And, despite being out 40 bones, I did get a good story out of it.

We should actually come up with a term for that action. Maybe a Bronx?
