The Dallas Morning Star Reports
The North Dallas Baseball Nine has announced that they have traded away their most recognizable star and career leader in most all major offensive statistics, Mel Ott, to Fremont for Fremont's #1 pick in the 1939 entry draft.
Mel was North Dallas' 2nd pick ever (10th pick overall), and was serious MVP candidate for many seasons, winning the award in 1935. He was also considered as a candidate for the Forty's managerial opening after the 1936 season.
Manager Billy Southworth made the announcement a day after the 1938 entry draft - a draft that saw the Forty select highly touted right-fielder Enos Slaughter. Southworth said a desire to continue with the youth movement in North Dallas prompted the trade.
Southworth said the organization has nothing but fond memories of Ott, and that he would be welcome to join the organization in some capacity after his playing days are over, should he so desire.

So much for the Ott-for-Swish deal.

Don't need another corner outfielder with Cullenbine, Galan, Heath, Henrich, and Slaughter...
BTW, Ott was (I believe) the last original 40 (i.e. drafted in'28).
