The dogs days of summer are here, and with only 45 or so games left on each team's slate, we are headed into some interesting competition.
St Louis trails North Dallas by only two games. Looking for their first pennant since 1930, the Plague will meet the Forty 6 more times, including 3 in North Dallas in the final weeks. Can the Forty continue to overachieve?
ND 60-43 ---
ST 59-46 2
Fremont trails the defending champ Harlem by a game and a half. They also meet six more times.
HAR 64-42 ----
FRE 62-43 1.5
Hank Greenberg (with 43) only needs 13 more home runs to catch Jimmie Foxx' single-season record. Foxx himself has 36, inching him closer to 400 for a career, which he should pass next season. Foxx is almost a shoo-in for the batting title, leading by 43 points.
Bob Feller of St Louis is roaring towards another 200 strikeout season, and has an outside shot at matching his total last year of 250. Did we mention that he is only 18?
At 38, Lefty Grove is 14-3, and dominating the opposition like a number one draft pick should. Without him, Harlem would be nowhere.
St Louis has six players in the top ten for batting:
(1) Foxx .383
(2) Myer .340
(4) Chapman .330
(8) Johnson .320
(9) Radcliff .317
(10) Rolfe .315
The Sprint for the Splint is now a three-pony race, since Pawtucket can't seem to fail enough. Ted Williams is looking for houses in Milton, Brooklyn and Montgomery.
Montgomery 43-67 .391 ----
Brooklyn 42-63 .400 1.5
Milton 45-62 .421 3.5
Pawtucket 48-57 .457 7.5
