I was at Oakbrook Elementary in "library". There was a TV there that a teacher walked over and turned on, then another person was watching, then another, and another, and then a group of kids...
I walked over to see what the fuss was about and stayed watching for the next few hours.

I was in Mrs. Hermes math class - 8th grade at Our Lady Queen of Peace. Just afternoon St. John Anne, our principal, came over the PA. She was choked up and told us that the Challenger was destroyed. We said a prayer for the souls of the dead and for their families and once finished with the prayer Mrs. Hermes continued with class. At the time I spent all my time reading about aviation and space exploration - I was stunned anything America did could result in such a failure.

I was eating lunch at Drager Middle School's cafeteria when the Assistant Principal announced the events.
