Interesting that in a few days, three separate local teams have gotten a major shout-out for their work in acquiring and/or developing talent:
Detroit Red Wings:

Michigan Football:

Detroit Lions:

Furthermore, there isn't really any question that Tom Izzo is also one of the best out there when it comes to an eye for talent, recruiting, and development. I just haven't seen a recent article specifically calling it out.
Michigan State Football has certainly elevated itself.
Michigan basketball is a nice little story, too.
Pro Basketball is a bit harder to judge, because of the instant success of prospects, and the NBA's super-reliance on superstars. So while the Pistons franchise is a mess, I'm not sure how to judge "prospects".
Anybody have any recent input on the Tigers farm system?
Regarding the Lions and Jim Schwartz, it's interesting (and great) to hear that he understands every position so well. When you combine that with the Football Outsiders proclaiming a few years ago that Schwartz understood and used advanced football statistics much better than any other coach in football, it's certainly a winning combination.
As for the Wings, I've known the players names in the minors, but not specific projections on where they would end up. Nor had I seen that they had more elite level prospects than other franchises. They listed a top ten, and praised another four guys, and didn't even mention any of the 3-4 goalies that they like, or Landon Ferraro, Mitchell Callahan, or Marek Tvrdon.
And I know that there's plenty of doubt on this board regarding College Football Recruiting, but Hoke has taken advantage of the unique opportunity at Michigan right now [name brand + opportunity to play immediately + ohio state issues].
