Alan Trammell was my favorite player growing up.
He was pimped in the '87 MVP ballot.

Cal Ripken, Jr for me. I think TWIB notes had a little to do with that though. That is why my youngest's middle name is Cal!

By the way, how is it determined who gets on the ballot?

I believe any player with 10 years of MLB service or more is first listed on a ballot 5 full calendar years after his last game.
If said player is named on a certain percentage of votes (5% I believe), he his carried over to the next year - unless, of course, he is named 75% or more - in which case he is elected into the HOF.

My favorite? Trammell. Easily.
North Dallas has the criteria too for the ballot. Unless they added something recently I am unaware of.

It has too be Tommy John. Man without his surgery how many players would never had made it to the big show to even get a chance to be on the ballot.

I am a product of the 1980's. Because of Cable TV and many a night watching WOR from New York and WTBS from Atlanta I have literally watched hundreds and hundreds of baseball games. The Mets were my favorite team for a decade because I watched them every night. The Braves, in the early to mid 80's were also a favorite, and before the amazing run of pitchers, and celeb hitters, there was Dale Murphy. I used to watch the lonely Braves and there ws Dale Murphy as there only star. The meager attendance at the old Brave's stadium would stand up when he came up to plate. Out of the list of 2007 HoF ballot, Dale Murphy was my favorite.

Only star?? I give you the man who hit four home runs in a game when it meant something. The man Mark McGwire would have became without suppliments, the one, the only. That face just has "Hollywood" all over it.
