Yeah, when you triple Rodney's salary and he is only a little over a million, it tells you how wisely the Tigers have been spending their money.

Yeah...by keeping those guys at low salaries, it enables the team to sign a player like Ordonez or Rodriguez or Rogers.
This is why I contend the most important for the Tigers to do (to be competitive) is to develop talent and retain it as long as they can before paying open market salaries. The Tigers will be able to sign a top priced free agent or two, but are never going to be able to spend the kind of money as the Red Sox / Yankees / Braves / Dodgers / Cubs / etc, so they have to do a better job than those teams at developing talent.
