How nice is it finally have a team where the main debate going into Spring Training is "What shitbag is going to be the back-up utility guy?", verses "What shitbag is going to pitch on Opening Day?"

Unbelievably Nice. I still would like a better 1B, but I suppose every team wants an improvement somewhere.
The article ends with...
Regardless of Perez's role -- if he has one -- it's easy to make the case that Polanco's injury was one of the more expensive separated shoulders in baseball history. It probably cost the Tigers a game or two (and, by extension, the American League Central), along with a minor league catcher (Chris Robinson), and roughly $3.125 million, when including Perez's 2007 salary and his final paychecks last year.
This seems a bit of an overstatement. Losing the AL Central was not THAT big a deal. Probably no one will remember it in a few years - winning the pennant is the key thing. Chris Robinson was/is not considered a good prospect, even though he was the Tiger's best catching prospect. 3.125 M - well I'd like that kind of money, but in MLB terms, it ain't that much. It pales in comparison with the money the Tigers wasted on Percival, Higginson, Easley, Vina, Clark, Palmer, etc.
