1870, I believe. Robert E. Lee became president of Washington College after the War to Prevent Southern Independence. The school has been renamed "Washington and Lee" since Lee's death.
Lee married a cousin of one of the step daughters of Washington, a Custiss, I believe. Lee's father was Light Horse Harry Lee - a hero of the American War of Independence who served under George Washington.
