Deik Scram
Deik was originally drafted in the 45th round of the 2004 draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, but chose to return to college. He spent his freshman year at Oklahoma State University as a short stop/DH, but moved to the outfield with the Cowley Community Tigers. In his Junior year, Deik had a .363/.446/.631 season with the Cowley Tigers, and after signing with the Detroit Tigers made a strong transition to professional baseball with 6 triples, putting him 4th in the NYPL.
Deik is a 6’0, 170 lbs and will turn 23 years old on February 1. He is expected to be a strong left handed batter in the West Michigan line up who should help the Whitecaps with his projected 5 tools in their pursuit of a 2007 Midwest league championship. He is described as having blazing speed which still needs to be displayed on the field. He is a pure hitter who is able to adjust to different pitches and is able to hit to all parts of the field (line to line). He has a natural strength which is expected to develop into home run power, and while somewhat inexperienced defensively in the outfield, improves steadily from game to game. He works hard and is very teachable, so hopes are high for this future Whitecap to have a good season. I am looking forward to meeting my Tiglet this spring. (with appreciation to Microline for his help in gathering info about Deik)
