What player (and current DBS'er) was the first batter to ever appear on TV? (aka, lead-off hitter in the first televised game)?

If I am wrong here, I bet I made the answer easier to find for anyone more skilled at coursing the Internets than I am. Here goes: the first televised major league game was a double-header between the Dodgers and Reds at Ebbets on Aug. 26, 1939, so the first televised batter is a Red. However, I could not find a box score anywhere for this game (or the nightcap, for that matter), so I instead went to 1939 World Series box scores hosted on retrosheet.org - assuming that the Reds' leadoff man in the Series also held that post during the regular season, my guess for the answer is Billy Werber. Here's hoping it's correct. Another Web site I checked in pursuing the question is: www.redshistory.com I think everyone will want to check out this site - not because it was any help in finding this answer (it wasn't), but because the opening page has a very creepy-looking picture of the Cincinnati mascot, Mr. Red. I'm guessing this was the original design of the character, and it's a good thing they changed it, or it'd be scaring children to this day.

Mr. Red looks a little too happy for my money...
